We are pleased to announce iFLY instructor Maddie Baylog will be joining us as a special guest organizer during our Sisters In Skydiving Boogie to benefit the YWCA of Greater Flint on Friday, July 12th through Sunday, July 14th.
Maddie Baylog received her license in 2016 at Skydive Chicago and has made about 250 jumps since then. She has been an instructor/coach at iFLY Rosemont for over a year now. In the tunnel she has 400+ hours and a Pro Flyer rating. Maddie loves being creative in the wind and trying things she's never done before. She also loves that she can express however she's feeling at the time while flying whether it be going fast, flying with grace, or throwing tricks. Maddie has competed MFS and VFS in tunnel competitions and has since been training for dynamic and freestyle. Outside of skydiving and tunnel flying, she enjoys hot yoga, cooking, and skiing.
We had a chance to ask Maddie a few questions about her experiences skydiving and as a tunnel instructor at iFLY in Rosemont, Chicago. Here's what she had to say!
- What ratings do you have in the tunnel/skydiving?
I am a Level 3 Instructor (there are 4 instructor levels) and a Pro Flyer in the tunnel. This year I will be working on my coach rating for the sky and shooting tandem video.
- When did you first decide to start skydiving, what was it like going through AFF and then working towards your A license?
I did my first tandem with a friend right after graduating high school. I was immediately hooked and decided to put off college to get my license and get as good as I possibly could! I actually failed 2 levels of my AFF ... flat spins.. oops! But that didn't stop me. I started flying in the tunnel to improve my skills and got licensed shortly after.
- What made you decide to become an instructor at the tunnel?
I started working in customer service for the tunnel for the free flight time. I knew I would have to put in the time working there to get as good as I wanted to be. I knew I wanted to be in the wind all day but sort of viewed the instructor position as a "big strong man's job". I eventually got the courage to go through the course after a few months of customer service and am now working towards my level 4 instructor rating!
- What is your favorite part about being an instructor?
Helping people improve their flying is such a challenge and a great creative outlet. I have some awesome coworkers which make the days fun. Oh, and the flight time!
- Have you ever competed in any tunnel or skydiving records?
I haven't done any records yet but will be working towards some this year! I will be going to the Ohio record this year along with some training camps for the Women's Vertical World record in 2020 which will be fantastic practice for the World Record in 2021
- What inspires you most about the sport?
The unlimited creativity. The sport continues to evolve in such incredible ways and its awesome be be pushed by that.
- What's your favorite part about traveling to SIS events?
This will be my first SIS event!
- What advice would you give to new female jumpers in the sport?
Charge hard! Don't be afraid to be the worst one on a jump because pushing yourself is how you will improve. Confidence is key. Fly your best and learn everything you can.
- What has skydiving taught you about life?
I'm only 21 and far from having this "life" thing figured out but I guess I'd have to say realizing the beauty of the road less traveled.
Maddie will be organizing and offering learning opportinuties during our 4th Annual Sisters In Skydiving Boogie to help benefit to YWCA of Greater Flint. Each year we use this event to not only help inspire female skydivers, but also to offer an educational experience to help build their abilities, confidence and skills in the sky though Special Female Guest Organizers and Mentors. All of this skydiving awesomeness combined with raising money and awareness for one of our local community organizations, the YWCA of Greater Flint. We hope that you will be able to join us Friday, July 12 - Sunday, July 14th for what is sure to be an incredible weekend full of smiles, excitement and sisterly love!

I'm 63 and a jump was on my bucket list. Everyone at Midwest treated me like I was the Hope diamond. There are no words to describe the adventure of a tandem jump...
