Midwest Freefall would like to introduce you to our newest staff member, 31 year old, Arturo J Rivera Jr. You will more than likely find him behind the counter at Manifest, editing tandem video packages or jumping from one of our perfectly good airplanes this season.
Once considered one of "Uncle Sam's Misguided Children", Arturo was in the United States Marine Corps and was stationed in North Carolina but has been deployed all over the globe. Since returning from the military he can often be found with his beautiful daughters, directing films, behind the lens of a camera taking incredible photos or working out. We asked him a series of interview questions which I hope will help you all get to know him a little bit better.
Q: What first attracted you to skydiving?
A: I was attracted to skydiving ever since I saw the movie Point Blank as a kid. From that moment on, I just knew I was meant to fly!
Q: How many skydives have you made?
A: Drumroll... 13! LOL! I made my first tandem in 2012 then proceeded to go through AFF in 2013. Each jump is special to me in it's own way and I've loved them all.
Q: What do you enjoy doing when you're not at the drop zone?
A: Spending time with my daughters, working out, traveling, eating sushi, film movies & music videos as well as binge watching shows on Netflix. Hey, don't judge me.
Q: What paths can you see yourself pursuing that are skydiving related?
A: I'd really like to pursue wing-suiting then eventually wing suit BASE. I would also love to take my cinematography to new heights and film a skydiving sequence in a blockbuster movie. Check out the skydive scene on the new Godzilla. Goosebumps!!!
Q: What inspires you the most?
A: What inspires me most is the thought of becoming whatever I set myself out to be. The human spirit is powerful and because of that nothing is impossible.
Q: What are your future goals?
A: I'd like to see my movies on the big screen, shoot a music video for Lana Del Rey, travel the world and own a green lightsaber.
Q: Where has been your favorite place you've traveled to date?
A: I would have to say British Columbia is my favorite. It's something about the foggy weather, dense forest and beautiful mountains that captured my heart. One day I'd like to live there.
Q: Where would your "dream skydive" be?
A: Over the Great Blue Hole in Belize.
Q: Tell us something people don't know about you.
A: I will be one of the greatest film directors this world has ever seen. Just wait and see...
So, let's all give Arturo, Midwest Freefall's newest video editor & manifest staff, a great big warm welcome!! We hope that you will all get a chance to know him a bit better over the season. He's a pretty cool cat!!! To see some of Arturo J Rivera's photography and videos click here!
