| Questions and Answers | |
| What types of freefall training do you offer? | |
| Top | Midwest Freefall offers Tandem and Accelerated Freefall training. Most people make their first skydive using the Tandem method. |
| What are the advantages of the Tandem method? | |
| Top | Tandem is the easiest and fastest way to make your first jump. Tandem skydiving utilizes a parachute system built for two, and your personal instuctor takes care of you on this type of jump. Ground training for a tandem takes less than 30 minutes, compared to 6 or more hours for Accelerated Freefall ground training. |
| What is Accelerated Freefall (AFF) training? | |
| Top | AFF is a training progression program that teaches you how to skydive on your own, and with other jumpers. It starts with a 6 - 8 hour ground school, and moves immediately into a 7-level jump progression program. You could be skydiving on your own in as few as seven jumps! Call for more information, or click on "First Time Jumper" above. |
| How do I schedule a jump? | |
| Top | Give us a call at (586) 752-JUMP (5867). We will help you select a day and time to schedule a skydive. At the time you schedule, we will ask you for a $50 deposit to hold your place on the schedule. This deposit can be paid by credit card or check. |
| How old do I have to be to jump? | |
| Top | You must be 18 years of age to skydive at Midwest Freefall. Before you can jump, you must sign a legal document (waiver) in which you give up certain legal rights. Only adults can sign this waiver for themselves. |
| What are the weight limits for Tandem Skydiving? | |
| Top | Due to equipment limitations, we limit tandem student weight to 230 pounds for men, and 190 pounds for women. Your weight should be reasonably proportionate to your height. For your safety and the safety of our instructors, we reserve the right to make the final decision as to your fitness to jump. |
| What should I wear to the dropzone? | |
| Top | Wear clothing that is comfortable for the weather the day of your jump. We also require that you wear tennis shoes on your skydive - no sandals or dress shoes, certainly no work boots. |
| How long will it take to make my Tandem Skydive? | |
| Top | The process of making your Tandem Skydive will take about three hours. This includes filling out the paperwork, watching a mandatory video, undergoing the training, gearing up and making your jump. We are often times at the mercy of factors that we cannot control, like weather delays, people in the group ahead of you that are late for their appointment, and other scheduling delays. For this reason, we ask that you plan to spend about half of the day at the dropzone. If there is a delay in early in the day, all jumps will be made in order of earliest appointment first, followed by later appointments in order. |
| What about the weather? Can it affect my reservation? | |
| Top | We cannot jump through clouds or in high winds. Therefore, the weather can interrupt our plans and delay your skydive. If the weather appears to be questionable, please call ahead and we will advise you. |
| How long will I be in freefall on my Tandem Skydive? | |
| Top | While falling at a speeds in excess of 120 mph, we will need to deploy the parachute in about 1 minute after departing the plane. Once under canopy, you will enjoy a graceful decent to earth which will last about 5 minutes. |
| Can I breath when freefalling? | |
| Top | Yes, you can breath. There are no physical reasons that you would not be able to breath, although you may find the view breathtaking :-) |
